Nashville, TN (March 23, 2024) – A somber conclusion came today in the search for missing University of Missouri student Riley Strain. Authorities confirmed that a body pulled from the Cumberland River this morning was indeed Strain, who had been missing for nearly two weeks.
Strain, a 22-year-old known for his outgoing personality and height of 6 feet 7 inches, vanished on March 8th after reportedly being separated from his fraternity brothers while on a trip to Nashville. Security footage captured him leaving a bar alone and inebriated.
An extensive search involving helicopters, boats, and ground crews focused on the Cumberland River after Strain’s disappearance. The discovery of his body eight miles downstream from where he was last seen offered a tragic resolution to the case.
“This is a heartbreaking day for the Strain family, the University of Missouri community, and everyone who participated in the search,” said Nashville Metro Police Department Chief John Drake. “Our deepest condolences go out to Riley’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
Authorities report no signs of foul play at this time. An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death. The investigation into Strain’s disappearance is now officially closed.
The University of Missouri released a statement expressing their grief and offering support services to students impacted by the news. Strain’s family has requested privacy as they mourn their loss.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of alcohol intoxication, particularly near bodies of water.
