Air Quality in Delhi Shows Little Improvement, Raising Health Concerns

As of March 30, 2024, Delhi’s air quality remains in the “poor” category according to the Air Quality Index (AQI). While there may be slight fluctuations, pollution levels are still a cause for concern, particularly for those with respiratory problems.

Details: Reports indicate that PM2.5 levels, which are the most harmful pollutants due to their small size and ability to penetrate deep into the lungs, are still significantly higher than the safe limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO). This can lead to a variety of health problems, including respiratory illnesses, heart disease, and even cancer.

Experts are urging residents to take precautions, such as wearing masks when outdoors, avoiding strenuous activity, and staying indoors during peak pollution hours. The government is also being called upon to implement stricter measures to address the various sources of air pollution in Delhi, such as vehicle emissions, industrial activity, and crop burning in neighboring states.
